Vatican Life Academy: Parents must vaccinate, even if vaccines come from aborted babies

VATICAN CITY, March 26, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — In a stunning declaration, the Pontifical Academy for Life — now populated entirely with Pope Francis appointments — has urged parents to vaccinate their children, even if the vaccines are derived from aborted babies.

The issue made national headlines this month when a Catholic family sued a local health department after it placed severe restrictions on school attendance and extracurricular activities of students at Assumption Academy in Walton, Kentucky, following an outbreak of chickenpox at the school.

Many Catholic families choose not to vaccinate their children against certain childhood diseases such as measles and chickenpox because the only vaccines available are derived from the cells of babies aborted in the 1960s.

In the middle of the controversy, the Pontifical Academy of Life chimed in, siding not with the conscientious Catholic parents and students, but with the health department officials for whom the abortion-derived vaccines present no moral dilemma.

The newly constituted Pontifical Academy of Life (PAV) — from which Pope Francis ejected all members appointed by Pope St. John Paul II and inserted his own appointees, with controversial Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia serving as the body’s head — said that “the cell lines currently in use are very distant from the original abortions and no longer imply that bond of moral cooperation indispensable for an ethically negative evaluation of their use.”

There is a “moral obligation to guarantee the vaccination coverage necessary for the safety of others,” added the PAV in its 2017 statement.

“An appropriate and necessary response”

The Kunkel parents, upon discovering the truth about the origins of the vaccines, chose not to have the chickenpox vaccine administered to their son, Jerome.

Now an 18-year-old senior, Jerome plays center for the school’s basketball team but has been prevented from finishing out the season as result of the Northern Kentucky (NKY) Health Department’s directive. The ban pits the religious liberty of the Kunkels and other Catholic families who conscientiously object against what the NKY Health Department says is the common good.

“Chickenpox, also known as varicella, can be a very serious illness that is especially dangerous for infants and pregnant women or anyone who has a weakened immune system,” declared the the NKY Health Department in an online statement. “The recent actions taken by the Northern Kentucky Health Department regarding the chickenpox outbreak at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart/Assumption Academy was in direct response to a public health threat and was an appropriate and necessary response to prevent further spread of this contagious illness.”

“The chickenpox vaccine is the best way to prevent becoming ill and spreading the varicella virus,” concludes the NKY Health Department, which advised Assumption Academy parents in a series of letters about the outbreak.

Parents were told, “All students without proof of vaccination or proof of immunity against chickenpox will not be allowed to attend school until 21 days after the onset of rash for the last ill student or staff member.”

Discrimination against Catholics living their faith

Despite the dangers inherent in rejecting the vaccine, its origin remains highly problematic — if not anathema — for Catholics who view abortion of unborn infants as murder. The fact that those murders occurred over fifty years ago does not ameliorate their violence and horror.

Jerome says the ban discriminates against him because of his religious beliefs.

“The fact that I can’t finish my senior year of basketball … is pretty devastating,” said Jerome. “I mean, you go through four years of high school playing basketball, you look forward to your senior year.”

His father, Bill, went further and told The Washington Post, “This is tyranny against our religion, our faith, our country.”

“I don’t believe in that vaccine at all,” said the elder Kunkel in a WLWT5 TV interview, “and they’re trying to push it on us.”

“The chickenpox vaccine is derived from aborted fetuses,” continued Kunkel, adding, “as Christians, we’re against abortions.”

The new Pontifical Academy of Life delivers muddled message, defies Catholic consciences

The PAV’s newly stated position represents a subtle shift in support of aborted fetal vaccines. In 2005, the PAV issued a statement that went to great lengths to describe the various levels of evil associated with the development, production, and marketing of such vaccines, while also addressing the culpability of doctors and parents.

The PAV said at that time that cooperation with the moral evil involved is “more intense on the part of the authorities and national health systems that accept the use of the vaccines” than it is on the part of doctors who administer the vaccines and the parents who choose to inoculate their children using the tainted vaccines because no other option exists.

While the PAV’s 2005 statement acknowledged the “moral coercion of the conscience of parents, who are forced to choose to act against their conscience or otherwise, to put the health of their children and of the population as a whole at risk,” the 2017 statement by the Academy essentially erases the role of conscience for parents, instead declaring a moral obligation to use the vaccines derived from aborted children.

“As we have seen on many other questions, the reconstituted PAV backslides into positions that no longer reinforce the conscience protections Catholic parents, and Catholics in general seek in order to live their lives in faith and trust in Christ,” said Judie Brown, American Life League president, in a statement to LifeSiteNews. “The new PAV position on vaccinations for children is more of the same.”

So not only are the consciences of the Catholic families of Walton Kentucky’s Assumption Academy pitted against their local health department, but they find themselves in opposition to the relaxed attitudes and standards of Francis’s Pontifical Academy of Life.

Pope Francis’s Pontifical Academy of Life: Tacit approval of aborted fetal vaccines

Debi Vinnedge, the founder of Children of God for Life, recently told LifeSiteNews’s Rome Correspondent, Diane Montagna, “There is a huge market worth billions of dollars due to the creation of patents, sale of the cell lines by companies that actually store and resell aborted fetal material.”

Research and vaccine production is filling the pockets of “universities, biotech companies, the pharmaceutical industry and of course, Planned Parenthood who was caught in an undercover sting discussing how they ensure obtaining intact organs for sale.”

“The tacit approval of using the aborted fetal vaccines when there is no alternative is a major roadblock to making any progress to stop this injustice,” said Vinnedge. “Until our physicians and clergy leaders unite worldwide demanding the moral alternatives, the pharmaceutical industry is not going to change. In fact, as history and the current trends are proving, it’s only going to get worse.”

Christopher Ferrara, author and head of the American Catholic Lawyers’ Association, said in 2017 that Pope Francis “demolished John Paul II’s Pontifical Academy for Life by sacking every one of its members and having its new president, the ‘pro-gay’ Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, draw up new statutes for the Academy.”

“Bear in mind that Pope [Francis] has abolished the pro-life oath formerly taken by members of the Academy,” he added.

It just never ends for us, does it Deb?

Our culture is dying right in front of our eyes…

Keep up the good work, and we will, too.

Anyone who is in the fight for moral vaccines knows this is a horrendous betrayal by Pope Francis and the Pontifical Academy for Life. There is mounting evidence by top scientists all over the world citing the toxic materials in addition to fetal tissue and other dubious DNA included in vaccines are creating havoc with immune systems. This is an all-out assault on life.

  3. Barbara Curry says:

I’ve been a catholic my whole life. Generations of catholics in my family. Priests in our family. But now I have to follow my soul. This Vatican is NOT the catholic church. We the people are. It’s hard for me to think that they do not know how these vaccines are made and the supporting of Planned Parenthood and the abortion mills are being supported by being a part of this vaccine industry. You cannot support this or you are guilty of the crime. THE CHURCH is actually part of this NO MATTER how they think i that vaccines save lifes which is debatable. I’m starting to think that they have money and ties with the pharmaceutical industry. After long consideration I no longer give money to the Catholic Church.

  4. Barbara Curry says:

On one hand in the Church we are desperately fighting against abortion. And the other hand is feeding the abortion mills by supporting the use of fetal tissue. And they are using new and many new fetuses not some old one from 1950. Look up Vaccine King where the scientist admits to 72 aborted fetuses for one study.

  5. Cheryl Thomas says:

I heard some time back, I forget where. Is there any truth about aborted baby tissue possibly causing DNA problems in our children such as the cause of the rise in a boy thinking he is a girl or a girl thinking she is a boy?

I thought, could that be possible? I really have not heard anything about that again. There sure does seem to be a great number of sex changes in this mixed up world today.

    Thank You,
    God Bless your work!

  6. Christine says:

Do not be fooled Barbara. The gates of hell will never prevail. Trust in Christs promise! My prayers are with you. Entrust this tremendous cross of confusion in the sight of scandal to Our dear Mother Mary. She will always guide you!

In October 2017, a new JOHN PAUL II ACADEMY FOR HUMAN LIFE AND THE FAMILY (JAHLF) has been set up to serve the same goals as the original Pontifical Academy for Life, founded 1994 by Saint Pope John-Paul II for the interdisciplinary study and defense of human life in all its stages.

Got some great information on it!

  8. Catherine says:

Tragic. So thankful for your unwavering Catholic commitment. Where does this all end…we can see the trajectory.

  9. Margaret M Saindon says:

No surprise that Francis’ appointees would hold a pro abortion position. Outrageous.

  10. Donna Schwieder says:

Very disheartening news to read the opinion of the Pontifical Academy for Life. When I first learned that aborted babies had been used in the manufacture of vaccines I was horrified! And greater horror struck me when I read the Church’s lukewarm stand on using aborted baby cell lines to manufacture vaccines which basically said, it’s really okay as it happened long ago. Yeah, right. As if Time sanctifies sin and wickedness.
I will stand with all the other Christians who absolutely refuse any vaccines produced using aborted baby cell lines whether it was “long ago” or more recent. Shame on the Pontifical Academy of Life. Vaccines using more recent aborted baby cell lines are coming out.

  11. Linda Petote Martin says:

After looking up “Vaccine King”, I was astonished to learn of current fetal use for vaccine studies.
    I am heartbroken.

  12. Ludwik Kozlowski says:

We need to pray on our knees for the church and for the love for the Magisterium of our Church which can’t be changed even by the Pope.

  13. Nancy Kennedy says:

Abortions will never end until the profits made especially the pharmaceutical company end…I am praying daily for the miracle to happen.

  14. Barb Curry says:

How can a decision of this magnitude be made without a through investigation by the heads of this Worldwide Church ? Not only have humans been harvested knowingly in the 1960s but it doesn’t take much research in this day and age to see that human babies are being harvested and body parts used “for the good of the living”. The researchers openly admit it now. It’s well past time for us the people, the church to be informed, take a stand, and make them reconsider there position. Until the Pope sits on the chair of Peter all that’s being said is just their uninformed opinions. TAKE UP YOUR ROSARIES!!!!

  15. Peggy Saindon says:

Confusion is of the devil. Diabolic is a Greek word that means
“to divide”. If we have any question about why there is confusion
and division regarding the morality of using aborted babies’ cellular material in vaccines and other products (both within the Church and in the world), we have only to look at this as the work of the “father of lies”.

    Press on, Debi.

  16. Donna Schwieder says:

Right on, Peggy! Believing the Devil’s lies has gotten us into so much trouble. Was talking to a Christian (pediatrician and Catholic) about using aborted baby cell lines to manufacture vaccines and she said it was okay since “the Pope said it was okay” and also that the cells were taken from a baby many years ago but now the cell lines were being used for something good, so it was okay. I cannot agree that since it happened many years ago it’s okay now to condone using such cell lines. That kind of reasoning can open up a door to all kinds of evil practices. Like: Well, if the babies are being aborted anyway, why not use their body parts to do good in the world and help the many sick and dying to recover? Anyone else outraged at this kind of reasoning?

  17. Nancy Kennedy says:

I am totally devasted!!!! I was hoping the Pope would make a stand. Wow!! It goes along with Palm Sunday when nobody stood up for Jesus. Who will stand up for the unborn. Until we end the profits made from abortions; abortions will never end. I am smart enough to figure that out and I am nobody important. Just have lots of common sense. Please say the St. Michaels prayer as often as possible. study the history of the prayer as well. God bless you and keep you all and have a prayerful blessed Holy Week to all.

  18. Stacey Harrison says:

I am wondering about the measles outbreaks. Just heard of another one in Michigan this morning on the news. I feel like the media benefits somehow from alarming people with this news. It makes me feel uneasy about not believing in the vaccination and I don’t want to feel that way. Can anyone give me more information on this?

  19. Linda Petote says:

Yes, in Michigan, these children have parents who opted out of vaccines for a variety of reasons.
Measles is a deadly and very rapidly spreading disease.

In Madagascar, over 1000 children under the age of 15 have died this year from the epidemic there, mostly babies. These parents haven’t opted out of vaccines; they are under vaccinated due to lack of resources to vaccines. Many children are malnourished here, as well.
Malnourished children frequently die from diseases such as measles.

Nobody benefits from reporting measles deaths.

  20. Stacey Harrison says:

So then it is more important to vaccinate than to not even with the fetal cells and tissue being used in the vaccinations?

    • CoG for Life says:

I think that is a decision a parent must make based on their own situation, both medically and spiritually. It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. I do know that when one takes a matter to prayer that person must do what God puts in their hearts. Moral conscience guides our actions and the Church teaches that “Conscience is the Aboriginal Vicar of Christ” – and – that “When he listens to his conscience, the prudent man can hear God speaking”. (CCC 1777-1778) Much more in those 2 passages and elsewhere on the duty of moral conscience. If you need more, see this link:

  21. Barb Curry says:

Look up “Vaccine Impact News”. It will give you information on the measles and the statistics and the CDC info. Hang tight. A civilization can’t live on harvested babies.

  22. Nancy Kennedy says:

Makes you totally ill UNTIL they quit profiting from abortions. Abortions will remain legal. Profit over people is the mind set. Say the St. Michael’s prayer.

  23. Donna Schwieder says:

Thank you for this well-documented and deeply disturbing article. What evil has gone on even in our own country using aborted babies as some kind of commodity is absolutely sickening. I will show this to the pediatrician but I doubt she will be convinced as she is proud that her clinic completely follows the CDC schedule and that the Catholic Church says it is okay. At least my RN daughter’s Catholic pediatrician had a wake-up call after she told her about aborted baby cell lines. She didn’t know! She looked it up and was horrified, but also said the Church says it’s okay since it was “so long ago.” At least now, though, the doctor accepts my daughter’s refusal to get her kids vaccinated with aborted baby cell lines and will still keep her children as patients. Other doctors in that same clinic refuse children who are not fully vaccinated.

  24. Elsha says:

Linda and others, You need to remember that Madagascar and so many other countries are third world. Vaccinating those who are not in optimal health is a recipe for disaster no matter if it’s third world or not.
Before vaccinating in developed countries doctors/nurses generally ask regarding the health of the child. If a child is not well they recommend holding off yet we vaccinate third world without questions with many deaths after vaccines recorded. Instead of pouring billions of dollars into vaccines it would be much better to support projects for clean water and better sanitary conditions etc in these countries.
This can be applied to developed countries also. Focussing on healthy food and healthy lifestyles is basically all that is needed to be healthy not loaded up with vaccines.

  25. Barb Curry says:

Yes ! And the rosary, and the Divine Mercy. Lord have mercy on us.

  26. Barb Curry says:

    Well said !

  27. Nancy Kennedy says:

Elsha, very well said. I learned a lot about immune systems and how to maintain a healthy system with healthy food and lifestyle. Looking for convenient quick fixes is making a mess out of man kind. God bless you and keep you all
